  • “ 'You have suffered enough.' That became my mantra for motherhood from there on out. You have suffered enough. If you can make it easier, make it easier, and don’t feel guilty about it.” —Ali Wong

Hi, I am Judith Wafe

Founder of The Fourth Trimester NP

 Our Founder's Story

Judith Wafe, DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC, PMH-C is a doctorally trained women’s health nurse practitioner with 18 years of healthcare experience. She had poorly controlled asthma as a child and spent much time in the pediatric Emergency Room (ER). In the ER she soon started to enjoy seeing patients go from instability to stability. This led to a career in Nursing. She completed her undergraduate degree (BSN) at the University of Miami and fell in love with women's health during her maternity clinicals at Jackson Memorial Hospital. She completed her graduate degree in Midwifery and Women's Health at Georgetown University and later completed her DNP at Duke University.

During her career she has cared for women with high-risk pregnancies, after delivery, and women diagnosed with breast cancer. She is perpetually amazed by the human spirit and the ability to be resilient in times of great affliction. Most recently, she launched a private practice that was dedicated to women with perinatal mood disorders such as postpartum depression and antenatal anxiety. During that time, she also provided Employee Assistance Program services for varied clients. She was then inspired to combine perinatal care with corporate wellness and ... the Maternity EAP with home visits was launched.

Part of the inspiration to provide maternity EAP services came from personal experience, as she is intimately familiar with the struggle to juggle work, graduate school, pregnancy, pre-eclampsia, and post cesarean section recovery. She is aware of the guilt and trauma that can happen when the birth plan does not work, and breastfeeding is not going well. She knows that the family can be drastically impacted when a new sibling is added, or the first baby is born. She has distilled all of these personal experiences into the EAP with the hope of helping families successfully navigate the perinatal space.

Daily, she is inspired by her husband and 6 children to be the best version of herself. Her self-care practices include weightlifting, laughing at witty comedians, being immersed in water, going to live concerts, and giggling with old friends.
