On a recent podcast where psychotherapist Lydia Allen-Moore and I discussed transitions in #motherhood, she spoke about the importance of manipulating your #mindset with the help of a professional. Let’s face it, it is easy to get trapped in our thoughts especially when we are changing, and our sense of security is being challenged.
Becoming a parent for me was one of the most difficult transitions that I have made. I missed just leaving the house within minutes, as opposed to having to get the car seat, and the breast milk, and the bottles, and the baby bag etc. I felt trapped in a way, like I could not be myself any longer.
If I had a time portal, I would go back to when my baby was 3 months old and apologize for not being fully present. I would tell her that I was suffering from limited thinking and that I could not conceptualize all the ways that being her mother made me a better human being.
